Audition Dates

 CHILDREN AUDITIONS:  Sunday, June 3rd 2:00-5:00 PM, 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Location: Mount Aloysius College, Alumni Hall; 7373 Admiral Peary Highway, Cresson, PA 16630 www.mtaloy.edu/map – Alumni Hall is letter “E” on the map. Enter the campus at the main entrance with the digital sign and take a right. You may park in lots 2a, 3, or 4 beside Alumni Hall.  Enter through the front Alumni Hall doors by the statue. (Please note: This has been changed from the  Lantzy Rehearsal Hall.)

  • Children auditioning must be going into 4th grade starting in August 2018 through 8th grade starting in August 2018. Children cast will not necessarily match the age of the characters. Character list below.
  • A mandatory meeting with children and parents will begin promptly at 2:00 PM for the afternoon session and 6:30 PM for the evening session then the closed auditions will begin following.
  • 7 orphans (female) and 3-4 additional ensemble children (male or female) who will be ensemble orphans or townspeople. Dance experience a plus!
  • If you are a parent who plans to audition in addition to your child, you may audition on Sunday, June 3rd. Please mention this to the stage manager when you check in.
  • You will need to be prepared to provide a list of all conflicts between Sunday, June 10th through Sunday, August 5th, including weekends. (No rehearsal on July 3-4.) Rehearsals will more than likely be five nights per week (Sunday-Thursday evenings) from 6:30pm-9:30pm, with not all characters called to rehearsal each night.

  • High school students in 9th grade and up may audition for adult roles.

How to Prepare for the Audition

  • All adults and children auditioning are strongly encouraged to prepare 16-32 measures of a song from a musical, preferably not from Annie. Accompaniment will be provided, so please bring your sheet music.
  • For children auditioning: If you do not have access to another song, do not worry. You may prepare the song, “Tomorrow,” (click here for the sheet music) from the production of Annie instead of or in addition to the other prepared piece.
  • Everyone will be given lines or part of a monologue to read during the closed audition.

What to Bring

  • Bring sheet music, a pencil, and wear clothing that is easy to move in.
  • No flip flops and no chewing gum.
  • Please bring your conflicts for the calendar.
  • Bring a positive and professional attitude and get ready to have fun—“the sun will come out tomorrow!”

Cast of Characters – Annie

 Children Roles

Ages: To be considered, children auditioning must be going into 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade starting Fall 2018. Children cast in roles will not necessarily match the age of their character.

Annie – A street-wise orphan; she is eventually taken in by Oliver Warbucks. Spunky, friendly, big-voiced, resilient, hopeful, and independent. Gender: Female; Age: 10 to 12 (will be played by a child in 4th grade and up)

  • Part size: Lead; Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano; Vocal range top: G5; Vocal range bottom: A3

 Molly – The littlest orphan girl; 6 years old

  • Gender: Female; will be played by a child in 4th grade and up.
  • Part size: Supporting; Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano

 Kate – The next to littlest orphan girl; 7 years old

  • Gender: Female; will be played by a child in 4th grade and up.
  • Part size: Supporting; Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano

 Tessie – The cry baby orphan girl; 10 years old

  • Gender: Female; will be played by a child in 4th grade and up.
  • Part size: Supporting; Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano

 Pepper – The toughest orphan girl; 11 years old

  • Gender: Female; will be played by a child in 4th grade and up.
  • Part size: Supporting; Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano

 July – The quietest orphan girl; 13 years old

  • Gender: Female; will be played by a child in 4th grade and up.
  • Part size: Supporting; Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano

 Duffy – The biggest orphan girl; 13 years old

  • Gender: Female; will be played by a child in 4th grade and up.
  • Part size: Supporting; Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano

 Ensemble orphans, Hooverville citizens and NYC ensemble:

  • Ensemble orphans (female) – dance and tumbling experience a plus!
  • Hooverville citizens or NYC ensemble children (male or female)

 Oliver Warbucks – A successful businessman with a warm heart. Rich, stiff-collared, bullish.

  • Gender: Male; Age: 30 to 55 (approx..)
  • Part size: Lead; Vocal range: Baritone; Vocal range top: Gb5; Vocal range bottom: B3

 Grace Farrell – Faithful secretary to Mr. Oliver Warbucks. Poised, sweet, gentle.

  • Gender: Female; Age: 20 to 35 (approx..)
  • Part size: Lead; Vocal range: Soprano; Vocal range top: G5; Vocal range bottom: Bb3

 Miss Hannigan – The orphanage matron who hates children but is fond of liquor. Disillusioned, bitter, and cold.

  • Gender: Female; Age: 30 to 45
  • Part size: Lead; Vocal range: Alto; Vocal range top: F5, Vocal range bottom: A3

 Rooster – Miss Hannigan’s no-good brother looking for a quick buck. A sleazy, slick con man.

  • Gender: Male; Age: 25 to 35
  • Part size: Supporting; Vocal range: Tenor; Vocal range top: G5; Vocal range bottom: B3

 Lily – Rooster’s girlfriend, who is also out for a quick buck. Flighty and flirtatious.

 Roosevelt – The 32nd President of the United States. A Democrat and friend of Warbucks.

  • Gender: Male; Age: 40 to 60

The following adult roles allow for flexible casting options – one performer may be given several roles.

 Drake – Male, The English Buter.

 Mrs. Greer – Female, The head housekeeper for Warbucks.

 Mrs. Pugh – Female, The chef for Warbucks.

 Cecille – Female, A maid for Warbucks.

 Annette – Female, A maid for Warbucks.

 Bundles – The laundry man who flirts with Ms. Hannigan and aids Annie’s attempt to escape. Spoken role only, and may be doubled with ensemble.

Bert Healy – The ultimate radio personality. He helps Annie by broadcasting about the search for her birth parents, Gender: Male

 Jimmy Johnson – Male or Female, The masked and mysterious radio show announcer.  Spoken role.

 Fred McCracken – Male or Female, On the radio show, carries the dummy, “Wacky.” Spoken role only.

 Sound Effects Man – Male or Female, A fun personality, appears on the radio show and completes sound effects.

 Boylan Sisters(Bonnie – soprano, Ronnie – alto, Connie – mezzo-soprano) – Appears on the radio show / beautiful voices and in harmony.

 A Star to Be – Female, Appears in NYC, a glamourous diva looking to make it big in the city.

 Harold Ickes – Male, Baritone, Secretary of the Interior for Roosevelt.

 Louis Howe – Male, Baritone, President Roosevelt’s trustworthy aide.

 Hull – Male, An associate of President Roosevelt. This role is doubled with chorus.

 Perkins – Female. An associate of President Roosevelt and the first woman to serve as a cabinet secretary of Labor. This role is doubled with chorus.

 Morganthau – Male, An associate of President Roosevelt. This role is doubled with chorus.

 Sophie the Kettle – Female; Alto, encounters Annie in the streets of NY.

 Lt. Ward – Male, spoken role only. He encounters Annie when she finds Sandy, the dog.

 Judge Brandeis – Male, judge hired to sign off on the adoption for Annie, Spoken only.

 Servants, Policeman, Dog Catcher, Usher, Men/Women of Hooverville – Ensemble roles featured throughout the streets of NYC, War bucks’ mansion, and Hooverville.
