If an auditionee is asked to return for callbacks for a principal role, callbacks will be held on Monday, June 1st, beginning at 6:00PM, at Cresson Lake Playhouse, 279 Shapiro Road, Loretto, PA. Callbacks could include further singing, movement/dancing, as well as reading scenes with others, so auditionees should be prepared to be at callbacks for a few hours.
What do I need to prepare for open auditions?
● All auditionees should be prepared to sing the song selection identified below for the role that they are interested in. Auditionees can be considered for multiple roles, but auditionees should be prepared to sing for one role at open auditions. If time allows, auditionees may be asked to sing for additional roles.
● Anyone who is interested in auditioning for an ensemble role only (not a principal role) may choose any one of the song selections below and prepare to sing this at open auditions. Note that all auditionees should be prepared to sing a selection.
● Auditionees should also bring or wear clothes that they can move in. Everyone will participate in either a movement or advanced dance call.Auditionees may choose which of these best matches their abilities, or auditionees may participate in both if they wish. We are looking to cast some strong dancers as part of our ensemble for specialized choreography (including jazz, contemporary, tap), but not every cast member needs to have advanced dance abilities. Please complete the linked audition form prior to attending your audition. Auditionees will need to list all conflicts between June 7th, 2026 and August 9th, 2026.
If you are unable to attend general auditions, please contact Cresson Lake Playhouse at Cressonlakeplayhouseauditions@gmail.com to discuss an alternate accommodation. These will be honored only if feasible.
About the Show:
Cresson Lake Playhouse is thrilled to announce auditions for Mean Girls! Based on the hit Paramount Pictures movie written by Tina Fey, Mean Girls follows teenager Cady Heron as she moves from the African savanna to suburban Illinois, where she navigates the cutthroat world of high school cliques and learns that popularity comes with a price. This high-energy show is packed with dazzling choreography, witty dialogue, catchy pop-infused songs, and plenty of pink. Mean Girls blends comedy and social commentary, exploring friendship, identity, and the ups and downs of fitting in. (Recommended for teens and adults– PG-13 content)
Roles:
Cady Heron (Vocal Range: G3 to Gb5): Cady is the emotional heart of the story. A
new junior at North Shore High School, Cady grew up in Africa and was
homeschooled by her wildlife biologist parents. She is warm, relatable, bright, a
whiz at Calculus, at times socially awkward, and strong enough to take on The
Plastics with their Apex Predator, Regina.
Audition Selection: Stupid With Love (measures 44-80)
Janis Sarkisian (Vocal Range: Ab3 to F5): Janis is an “art freak,” social
nonconformist, and besties with Damian. She is not afraid to be weird or make
others uncomfortable. She paints herself as an objective observer, but she longs to
avenge the devastating events of eighth grade.
Audition Selection: I’d Rather Be Me (measures 55-97)
Damian Hubbard (Vocal Range: F2 to A4): Damian is extremely outgoing–serving as
an active member of the student activities committee and representing theatre and
vocal kids everywhere. He is fierce and a fiercely loyal friend to Janis. Their rapport
is that of a comedic duo. Damian is a performer through and through, and as such he
acts, sings, moves, and dances with flair. Ideally, Damian also has tap dancing
abilities. (NOTE: Actors without tap dancing experience are still encouraged to
audition for Damian. Don’t count yourself out.)
Audition Selection: Where Do You Belong (measures 42-71)
Regina George (Vocal Range: F#3 to Gb5): Regina is the Queen Bee of The Plastics.
When she shines her light on you, you feel like the most important person in the
world. When that light goes cold, you want to disappear. She is regal and “hot,” but
at her most vulnerable moments, she is just a kid in over her head.
Audition Selection: World Burn (measures 49-126)
Gretchen Wieners (Vocal Range: G3 to D5): Gretchen sits at the right hand of Queen
Bee Regina, “like a Jewish Princess Jesus.” She is desperate to please Regina and
maintain her position in The Plastics. She is a nervous wreck and collector of secrets.
Her fragility at times is heartbreaking.
Audition Selection: What’s Wrong With Me? (measures 44-107)
Karen Smith (Vocal Range: G3 to Gb5): Karen is the third member of The Plastics.
She is essentially kind, relaxed, and a generous laugher. People underestimate her
intellect because she is beautiful and slow to speak. She plays the role that others
have assigned to her–dumb blonde.
Audition Selection: Sexy (measures 32-60 and 90-99)
Aaron Samuels (Vocal Range: B2 to Bb4): Aaron is a cute boy with a good moral
compass and backbone. He is not immune to all the female attention he gets, but he
is not going to let himself be a pawn in their chess game either.
Audition Selection: More Is Better (measures 71-94)
Kevin G.: Kevin is the extremely driven captain of the North Shore Mathletes. He is
also extremely confident in himself, entrepreneurial, and a self-proclaimed rapper.
Kevin is comfortable and on his game wherever he goes. Kevin likes to get down and
bust a move.
Audition Selection: Whose House Is This? (measures 9-20; style: rap)
Ms. Norbury/Mrs. George/Mrs. Heron (Vocal Range: G3 to Eb5): Ms. Norbury is
Cady’s world-weary Calculus teacher who pushes Cady to be her smartest self. She is
kind with a sharp, sarcastic humor. Mrs. George is Regina’s “cool mom.” She’s
desperate to look young and feel like one of the teens. She’s also desperate for Regina
not to repeat her mistakes. Mrs. Heron is Cady’s intellectual mom who can’t
understand why her daughter is devolving before her eyes. (NOTE: One actress will
portray all of these roles, so it is imperative that each is distinctly defined.)
Audition Selection: What’s Wrong With Me? Reprise (measures 47-85; as Mrs.
George)
Mr. Duvall/Mr. Heron/Other Adults: Mr. Duvall is the principal of North Shore High.
He may have once taught computers at Joliet Penitentiary, but nothing prepared
him for the harsh realities of out-of-control female juniors. He is funny but
overlooked. Mr. Heron is Cady’s easy-going, loving dad…like one would see on a
sitcom. (NOTE: One actor will portray both of these roles as well as other smaller
adult roles throughout the show, so it is imperative that each is distinctly defined.)
Audition Selections for Mr. Duvall and Ensemble of Teens: Prepare whichever
selection among the other roles best suits your voice. We are looking to cast some
strong dancers as part of our ensemble for specialized choreography (including
jazz, contemporary, tap), but not every cast member needs to have advanced
dance abilities. We do ask that all auditionees be prepared to sing a selection at
auditions, even if they do not want to be considered for a principal role.
